Relaxation is achieved by silently repeating specific commands to the brain, such as "my arm is feeling heavier and heavier". This is known as auto-suggestion. The method is used to create a feeling of heaviness, to slow down the heartbeat and breathing, and to generate warmth in the body and a sense of cool on the forehead. The exercises can be done while sitting or lying down.
