Diagnostic and therapeutic form of manual medicine founded by Andrew Taylor Still (1828–1917)

Osteopathy is the process of diagnosing and treating functional disorders of the musculo-skeletal system. The osteopath uses a range of treatment methods: tense muscles are massaged and relaxed, and frozen joints and vertebrae restored to movement using special manual techniques. According to osteopathic theory, changes and damage to muscles, joints and ligaments can also result in disorders that appear to have nothing to do with bones or muscles, such as stomach problems.
