Robin Traber – Math & Data trainee

Robin began his career in healthcare as a trainee in Math & Data at CSS. He now works at CSS in a permanent role. In this portrait, he explains why he chose CSS and which aspects of the trainee programme made the most impact on him.

Why did you choose the CSS trainee programme?

Even during my master's specialisation, I deliberately chose the healthcare sector. I find the industry fascinating because it’s complex yet stable.

As a major private provider, CSS was my first choice if I wanted to help shape the future of Swiss healthcare. I saw the trainee programme as the ideal entry to my career, as it allowed me to get to know different departments and build up knowledge of the insurance sector.

Why is CSS the right place for me?

An open and warm corporate culture is very important to me. Since starting in September 2023, I’ve met many dedicated and friendly people at CSS. The company genuinely practices an informal style of interaction. I felt welcome and was able to get involved quickly, which made my entry especially easy.

We have two lives, and the second begins when we realize we only have one.

Who am I outside CSS?

Sport plays a big part in my life. I used to play football. These days I train at the gym, go boxing and, depending on the season, enjoy sporting activities in the mountains or by the sea.

What was my highlight in the trainee programme?

I had many exciting experiences during the trainee programme. I assisted with an audit, supported a due diligence process for an investment in a healthcare start-up and performed a solvency calculation.

My personal highlight was my time in the KVG actuarial science team. There I analysed competitors’ premiums and calculated the risk equalisation, which helped me to better understand the factors that influence mandatory health insurance.
