Changing health insurer

Would you like to change to CSS as your new health insurer? It couldn’t be easier – it only takes a few steps. Don’t forget the period of notice for your current health insurance.

What to do for mandatory basic insurance:

  1. Get a personal offer – it only takes a few minutes using the
    Premium Calculator
  2. Take out the insurance online or print and sign the application and send it to us.
  3. N.B.: Cancel your old insurance by registered letter. Your cancellation notice must reach your old insurer by the end of November (i.e. the last working day in November) if you want to be insured with us the following year. We are happy to cancel your insurance for you on request.
  4. You’ll then receive confirmation of admission from us.

What to do for supplementary insurance:

  1. Get a personal offer – it only takes a few minutes using the Premium Calculator.
  2. Take out the insurance online or print and sign the application and send it to us.
  3. We may need to ask you for further medical details. We’ll let you know our decision as soon as possible.
  4. Don’t forget the period of notice for your old supplementary insurance. You can usually cancel up to 30 September, effective from the end of the year. We’ll be happy to cancel your insurance for you on request.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I pay higher premiums in town?

There is a proliferation of doctors’ practices and specialist clinics in towns and cities. And if there are a large number of medical services available in a particular region, greater use will be made of them. That’s why healthcare spending is higher in urban areas – and premiums are too. Incidentally, it’s the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) that’s responsible for defining the premium regions.

You can save on premiums by choosing basic insurance without a free choice of doctor.

From when am I insured?

In the case of basic insurance, your cover commences from the date on which the insurance begins – usually 1 January.

In the case of supplementary insurance, there is often a qualifying period. You can only start drawing benefits once a certain waiting period has elapsed, e.g. for dental damage under Dental Insurance or for pregnancy under Hospitalisation Insurance.
