How Hospitalisation Insurance works

Do you need to go into hospital? myFlex Hospitalisation Insurance makes sure you are ideally prepared.

Free choice of hospital

You decide at which hospital in Switzerland you wish to be treated. And before being admitted, you choose whether you’d like to stay in a general, semi-private or private ward and which doctor should treat you.

How much does myFlex Hospitalisation Insurance cost?

Hospitalisation Insurance comes in three categories: Economy, Balance and Premium. Premiums depend on your age, gender and chosen category.

As individual as you are

Thanks to the Economy, Balance and Premium options, Hospitalisation Insurance can be perfectly adapted to your requirements. You decide when entering into the contract how high your retention fee for a stay in hospital should be. In other words, myFlex lets you choose the offer that best matches your budget and needs.

Good to know about myFlex Hospitalisation Insurance

myFlex Hospitalisation Insurance offers benefits including: cost coverage for stays in hospital, spa and recovery cures, inpatient psychiatric stays, and more.

Hospitalisation: inpatient with overnight stay

When being treated as an inpatient, you go into hospital either on the day of the procedure or the day before. You then stay in hospital for at least one night. Surgery or no surgery? Sometimes a neutral second opinion is needed.

Outpatient with exclusive additional benefits

More and more operations are being performed on an outpatient basis. That means procedures where you are able to go home a few hours after the operation and don’t have to stay overnight in hospital. myFlex Hospitalisation Insurance lets you enjoy exclusive additional benefits for outpatient treatment, greater comfort and more privacy.

Increase your cover, no health questions asked

Choose the Upgrade option. This gives you the flexibility to tailor your insurance to your own personal circumstances, regardless of your state of health. The option may be exercised every 5 years (at the age of 20, 25, 30, etc. up to age 70).

Participation in cost of fitness, yoga and more

If you have both Hospitalisation Insurance as well as myFlex Outpatient Insurance, you benefit from the Health Account. We provide support – of up to CHF 800 per year – for your health-related activities through the Health Account.

Frequently asked questions

No. We recommend insuring the risk of accident. Excluding it is only recommended for persons who are insured through their employer for better cover than that prescribed by law. Exclusion results in a mere 7% premium reduction.

Hospitalisation Insurance gives you freedom of choice throughout Switzerland – with the exception of hospitals on the hospital list.

Yes. You pay a share of the costs of a stay in hospital in the form of a co-payment. The amount is determined by the chosen hospital ward and co-payment. A high co-payment means you take on more financial responsibility and pay less premiums in return. You also pay the deductible, retention fee and contribution to hospital costs under basic insurance.

There is no limit on the length of hospital stay for acute care. Limits only apply to stays in psychiatric clinics and rehab clinics:

Inpatient psychiatry

  • Economy: maximum 60 days per calendar year
  • Balance: maximum 90 days per calendar year
  • Premium: maximum 180 days per calendar year

Outpatient / inpatient rehabilitation

  • Economy: maximum 60 days per calendar year
  • Balance: maximum 90 days per calendar year
  • Premium: no limit

You can insure elective treatment abroad for up to CHF 500,000 under the Premium category.
