Yes. Basic insurance pays 50% of the cost of transport, but no more than CHF 500 a year, for patient transport in Switzerland. Emergency Insurance Livo assumes 100% of the cost of emergency transport worldwide, making it an ideal supplement to basic insurance.
If your insurance doesn’t assume costs in an emergency, then Rega doesn’t have to pay anything either. Emergency Insurance Livo provides you with worldwide cover.
In EU and EFTA countries, you get the same benefits for emergency medical treatment as the people who live in those countries. For emergencies in other countries, basic insurance pays up to twice the costs it would assume in your canton of residence. In countries with high healthcare costs, such as the USA, Canada, Australia and Japan, this generally won’t be enough. That’s why it's worth taking out Emergency Insurance Livo, which assumes all the additional costs including medication.
