In the EU, EFTA and the UK (i.e. all EU countries, Iceland, Norway and the United Kingdom), an emergency means unexpected treatment as a result of illness, accident or maternity that becomes necessary during your stay abroad.
In all other countries an emergency is when you have an accident or fall ill and require urgent medical assistance but are unable to travel back to Switzerland safely without treatment.
