Effect: why lemon water is so healthy
Following a healthy lifestyle can be quite exhausting: practising sport, eating a healthy diet, getting plenty of sleep and much more besides. Little effort – great effect. Drink a glass of lemon water in the morning for a healthy start to every new day. It is quick to make and can work wonders.
Vitamin C – lemon juice boosts the immune system
The juice of a lemon is rich in vitamin C. This is what gives lemon water its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and the boost to the body’s defences. However, vitamin C is very sensitive to heat, so drinking cold lemon water is also beneficial.
Detox and deacidify the body
Hard to believe, as it tastes so sour, yet lemon is said to have an alkalising effect. This, at least, is the basis of the acid-alkaline theory. A glass of lemon water will restore the acid-alkaline balance if you have eaten a lot of meat the day before or if you are over-acidified from other foods and stimulants. Lemon water also has a slightly diuretic effect and can thus help to discharge harmful and toxic substances through the urine.

Quick recipe for lemon water
Press ½ lemon
- Mix the juice with 250 ml lukewarm water, adding honey or stevia if desired
- It’s best drunk first thing in the morning after getting up
The lemon water should not be made too hot, otherwise valuable nutrients are lost.
